We had a fantastic first session at Malton Hospital.
Undaunted by the amount of gear we need to make music we loaded everything (amp, piano, music stand, cables, music) onto our trolley (is it on the trolley a la Victoria Wood?!) and careered our way around Fitzwilliam ward singing as we went.
There was some lovely singing from patients and visitors and even a bit of dancing from one or two of the nurses!
- Staff: ‘Oh, I like this’
- Patient: ‘Smashing, I used to be in a band in Ireland. Come see us again!’
- Patient: ‘It’s a lot better than this new music, all thump, thump, thump.’
- Patient: ‘It’s good, I think it’s a good idea’
- Visitor: ‘Marvellous!’
- Patient: ‘Thank you very much, I’ve enjoyed it much more than sitting doing nothing!’
And the added bonus was the comedy of negotiating the trolley around the ward (L plates needed Neil?) and Ruth chasing the piano (on the trolley) around the place when the playing got a bit enthusiastic!
Enough to cheer anyone up.
Can’t wait for the next session!
