Highdays and holidays

We have several songbooks on the go at the moment: Book 1, Book 2 and ‘Highdays and Holidays’ ( as well as all our little supplementary songbooks that celebrate various occasions throughout the year). We have a sizeable repertoire of songs and its good to ring the changes so our lovely singers don’t get bored.

So today we thought we would sing from our ‘Highdays and Holidays’ book which is really a collection of all the songs we have sung over the year to celebrate passing events.

On St. Patrick’s day we sang  Irish songs so obviously ‘Danny Boy’ was top of the list along with ‘I’ll take you home again Kathleen’. When it was Danny Kaye’s birthday we celebrated by singing ‘Wonderful Copenhagen’ and in May we celebrated the Eurovision Song Contest by digging out some old British entries and singing them with renewed gusto especially ‘Puppet on a String’ and ‘Looking High’.

We sang all of these today. A very eclectic mix I know, but then variety is the spice of life eh?!

Of course singing songs like these often brings back memories for people – some happy and some not so, but I can honestly say there is usually a lot more laughing than there are tears shed at our Happy Hour.

We definitely want to sing!
